I am reading this book for the third time and it continues to be impossible to put down. Every time I read it I have noticed something different and experienced something new. Sam has given the reader inspiration for thoughtful reflection on society and self through a thrilling adventure. This was a very thought provoking book, and thoroughly engulfing. While it takes the guise of a simple apocalyptic thriller, there is much more here. When regarded as a thriller it's entartaining, but where this book shines is in its deviations from the thriller paradigm. It gives an interesting and refreshing view of what it means to be a higher power and what the purpose of living is. You'll get out of this book whatever you decide to put in. If you want an enjoyable sci-fi adventure, it can be that. But it can also be a deep philosophical work, if you decide to really think about the events that take place within its pages.
A very good first entry for a new author. Its twists and turns kept me reading long through the night, and the author really offers a great deal of insight into the destructive nature of humanity and our cultural and idealistic isolation through Petyr's enthralling and often bewildering adventure. I am certainly looking forward to Sam's next novel.
